During a Bleacher Report live stream on Thursday (available via YouTube), NBA reporter Jake Fischer emphasized repeatedly that ongoing negotiations involving four major restricted free agents – Jonathan Kuminga (Golden State Warriors), Josh Giddey (Chicago Bulls), Quentin Grimes (Philadelphia 76ers), and Cam Thomas (Brooklyn Nets) – are unlikely to conclude anytime soon.

According to Fischer, each player remains locked in a contract impasse with their current team.

“We’re still in a bit of a stalemate with all these restricted free agents,” he stated. “And right now, all indications suggest that these negotiations will drag well into August – and possibly even spill into September.”

He continued, explicitly naming the four players: “Don’t expect a resolution for Jonathan Kuminga, for Josh Giddey, for Quentin Grimes, for Cam Thomas, anytime soon.”

Fischer also shed some light on Golden State’s position regarding Kuminga, noting that while teams like the Kings and Suns have approached the Warriors with potential sign-and-trade offers, none of those proposals have been well-received.

The Warriors, Fischer noted, are not actively shopping the player – but they also don’t want to risk losing him without compensation.

“Jonathan Kuminga’s side, I believe, right now, would be willing to take a two-plus-one with a player option three-year deal,” Fischer explained. “I think that Jonathan Kuminga’s side would take this one-plus-one situation with Golden State – this two-year, $45 million offer that’s been on the table – if he were to get a player option in year two.”

However, Golden State is holding its ground, unwilling to offer that flexibility.

“I was told yesterday from various sources that Golden State is going to be holding firm … that second year is going to be a team option. And that’s kinda where this staring contest is at,” Fischer concluded.
