Indiana Pacers assistant coach Mike Weinar has withdrawn from consideration for the New York Knicks’ top offensive assistant role, according to a report from Ian Begley of SNY.
Weinar informed the Knicks of his decision on Tuesday, opting to remain on Rick Carlisle’s staff in Indiana rather than joining Mike Brown’s newly formed bench in New York.
The Knicks had identified Weinar as a leading candidate for the offensive coordinator position under Brown, who was hired last month following the dismissal of Tom Thibodeau.
Weinar’s longstanding relationship with Carlisle, dating back to their 13 seasons together in Dallas, played a key role in his decision to stay.
Known for his strategic acumen and detail-oriented offensive planning, Weinar has earned league-wide respect as a cerebral assistant with deep experience in analytics and game management.
The 2025–26 season will mark his fifth consecutive year working under Carlisle, including stints with both the Mavericks and Pacers.
With Weinar no longer in the mix, the Knicks are now focusing their search on Charlotte Hornets assistant Chris Jent, who has emerged as a serious contender for the vacancy.
Jent previously coached alongside Mike Brown in Cleveland and brings a reputation for player development and shooting instruction.
Frank Isola reported earlier that Jent was viewed internally as a top target by the Knicks’ front office.
