Washington Wizards rookie Kyshawn George is set to join the Canadian men’s national team for the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup in Managua, Nicaragua.
According to Libaan Osman, George is expected to play a featured role when the tournament tips off in late August.
The 6-foot-8 shooting guard had a strong first year in the NBA, appearing in 68 games and starting 38 for Washington.
He averaged 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, while also setting a franchise rookie record with 31 straight games with a made three-pointer.
George reached 100 made threes faster than any rookie in Wizards history, hitting the mark in just 59 games.
His perimeter shooting and size on the wing have made him a key long-term piece for the rebuilding Wizards.
Now, the 21-year-old will bring that skill set to Team Canada as they look to make a deep run in Group B alongside Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Panama.
Canada opens the AmeriCup against Venezuela on August 22 at Polideportivo Alexis Arguello in Managua.
They will face Panama on August 23 and finish group play against Puerto Rico on August 25.
The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place finishers, will advance to the quarterfinals.
This marks George’s first official involvement with Canada Basketball at the senior level.
He previously played college basketball at Miami before being selected 24th overall by the New York Knicks in the 2024 NBA Draft and subsequently traded to the Wizards on draft night.
The 2025 AmeriCup will run from August 22–31 and will be hosted in Nicaragua for the first time.
Canada last won the tournament in 1999 and finished fourth in 2022.
