Jonathan Kuminga’s pursuit of a fresh start has led to trade discussions, but Sacramento’s key players Keegan Murray and Keon Ellis remain off limits, according to Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee.
While Kuminga is reportedly intrigued by the Kings’ pitch, Golden State has resisted offers involving Devin Carter, Dario Saric, and draft picks, sources told Anderson.
The Warriors have been willing to consider deals that include Murray or Ellis, but league sources confirm neither player has been discussed in talks for Kuminga.
Kuminga recently communicated with Kings executives Scott Perry, Doug Christie, and B.J. Armstrong, sparking interest in a potential move.
Sacramento’s pitch emphasizes a starting role and more playing time, elements Kuminga values alongside contract terms.
Kuminga remains unsigned with the Warriors after declining a two-year, $45 million offer due to disagreement over team options and no-trade clauses.
He holds a $7.9 million qualifying offer that includes a no-trade clause, allowing him leverage if he chooses to stay.
Murray, 24, has averaged 12.4 points and 6.7 rebounds in 34.3 minutes per game this season and is entering the final year of a $36 million deal.
Ellis, 25, has played 80 games this season with 8.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game, under a $5 million deal expiring after this year.
Despite Sacramento’s interest, Golden State demands a first-round pick in any trade package, complicating negotiations with Phoenix and other teams.
Cap and “base-year compensation” rules further limit the Warriors’ flexibility in matching salaries and structuring deals.
Kuminga’s camp continues to explore sign-and-trade options, but Golden State is prepared to keep him on the roster via the qualifying offer or their current contract offer.
The standoff reflects a wide gap between Kuminga’s contract expectations and the Warriors’ valuation, with both sides holding firm as training camp approaches.
