Multiple reports suggest there remains a wide disconnect between restricted free agent guard Cam Thomas and the Brooklyn Nets in their ongoing contract negotiations.

According to Grant Afseth of FastbreakJournal.com, talks have stalled significantly, largely due to the limited number of NBA teams with enough cap flexibility to present Thomas with a compelling offer sheet – one that could force the Nets to make a difficult decision about matching.

“Cam’s undeniably gifted as a scorer, but he’s currently in a tough spot,” said a veteran scout from a playoff team, speaking with FastbreakJournal.com.

“He’s aiming for a contract that reflects star-level value, but many front offices see him more as a high-octane bench weapon – a guy who can light up the scoreboard in bursts but isn’t necessarily someone to build around. That difference in perception is what’s holding up a deal.”

Afseth’s reporting aligns with prior coverage from Jake Fischer, noting that Thomas is “increasingly likely” to settle for signing his one-year, $6 million qualifying offer.

Doing so would not only keep him with Brooklyn for the upcoming season but also grant him a de facto no-trade clause and set him up to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026, when he could pursue a more lucrative, long-term deal without the limitations of restricted free agency.
