Baskonia has officially signed Italian guard Matteo Spagnolo to a three-year contract, locking in the 21-year-old through the 2027–28 season.
The club confirmed the acquisition Monday, announcing that Spagnolo joins from Alba Berlin after a standout campaign in the EuroLeague.
Spagnolo averaged 9.6 points, 3.8 assists, and 2 rebounds across 27 EuroLeague appearances during the 2024–25 season.
He played 20 minutes per game for the German side and registered an average efficiency rating of 8.9.
Born in Brindisi in 2003, the 6-foot-4 playmaker began his professional career in the Real Madrid system and made his Liga Endesa debut at just 17 years old.
His arrival in Vitoria-Gasteiz adds depth and creativity to the backcourt for head coach Pablo Laso as the club eyes a deeper EuroLeague push.
Before joining Alba, Spagnolo gained valuable minutes on loan at teams such as Vanoli Cremona and Dolomiti Energia Trento in Italy’s Serie A.
He also represented Italy at the senior national level and has long been viewed as one of Europe’s top guard prospects.
Spagnolo’s development has been closely followed by NBA scouts, and he was selected 50th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
However, he has remained in Europe to continue honing his game, with his recent season in Berlin marking a major step forward in his maturity and impact.
