Nikola Vucevic is attracting NBA trade interest despite some rumors suggesting otherwise. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the market for the Bulls’ veteran big man is alive and could develop further this season.

Stein told CHGO Sports that although the phones might not be ringing off the hook, he rejects the idea that no teams want Vucevic. The value of skilled big men is rising in today’s NBA, and Vucevic’s 20-and-10 threat combined with floor-spacing ability keeps him relevant.

The Bulls currently face no urgency to move him, given his expiring contract and their roster situation. Stein suggests Chicago will wait to see how the market unfolds closer to the February trade deadline.

Vucevic’s skill set fits certain team needs, especially for playoff contenders seeking a reliable, experienced center. Despite being “a little long in the tooth,” Stein emphasized Vucevic’s offensive impact, including nearly 40% shooting from three-point range.

Stein contrasted Vucevic’s situation with players like Al Horford, whom some teams can acquire more cheaply, but Vucevic remains an attractive option for teams wanting a starter or a high-level backup big.

On the other hand, some voices like Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report have suggested the market for Vucevic is limited and a midseason buyout might be more likely than a trade. Still, Stein disputes that and points out the Bulls’ lack of better options behind Vucevic, noting backups Jaylen Smith and Zack Collins aren’t proven starters.

Stein also highlighted Vucevic’s durability and professionalism. Since joining Chicago, the veteran center has played most games and delivered consistent production, making him valuable for a team in transition.

The Bulls could potentially hold onto Vucevic until the trade deadline, then explore offers from playoff teams dealing with frontcourt injuries. This timeline would also allow the team to evaluate younger players for the future.
