Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija is putting his NBA responsibilities on hold this summer to fully commit to representing his home country, Israel, in the upcoming EuroBasket tournament.

As reported by Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops.net, Avdija made it clear during a press conference that his current priority lies with the national team, not the NBA.

“I am not currently thinking about the NBA. Playing for the national team of Israel is the most important honor for any player,” Avdija said, emphasizing how much pride he takes in wearing his country’s jersey.

The 24-year-old forward expressed excitement about reuniting with familiar faces – teammates he has shared the court with during his youth in Israel’s junior national programs.

The opportunity to compete alongside them again on an international stage is something he cherishes.

“Joining players I grew up with from the junior national teams is exciting. We have an amazing squad here, capable of great things. I will do everything possible to make this team successful,” he said.

Israel will compete in Group D of the EuroBasket preliminary round, facing off against Iceland, Poland, France, Belgium, and Slovenia from August 28 to September 4.

With his eyes set high, Avdija expressed strong confidence in both his own ambitions and the team’s potential.

“I am aiming for the top. I have always aimed for the top,” he stated.
