The Phoenix Suns have expressed interest in acquiring Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, but a deal appears unlikely due to their limited trade assets, according to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic.

Rankin reported that league sources confirmed the Suns’ interest in the 22-year-old forward. However, the team’s lack of draft capital and movable contracts makes it difficult to construct a competitive sign-and-trade offer that the Warriors would accept.

Kuminga, a restricted free agent, remains a focal point of Golden State’s offseason plans. The Warriors extended him a $7.9 million qualifying offer earlier this summer, giving them the right to match any offer sheet he signs with another team.

On Willard and Dibs, Warriors insider Marc Grandi explained that Golden State is deliberately holding back from significant moves until Kuminga’s situation is resolved. “They want to have all the leverage in this Kuminga situation for themselves,” Grandi said. “So until the Kuminga thing resolves itself, they aren’t giving out anything above a vet minimum deal.”

Kuminga is coming off a career-best season, averaging 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, which has raised his market value. However, the restricted free agent market has been slow, with limited cap space across the league affecting negotiations.
