During a Zoom media session on Saturday, Los Angeles Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank shared that the team is “strongly, strongly considering” bringing veteran point guard Chris Paul on board as a free agent.

The Clippers currently have two open slots remaining on their projected 15-man roster. However, financial constraints are a concern – they’re operating just $3.57 million beneath the first-apron hard cap.

That limited flexibility means they’d likely be able to add no more than a single player on a veteran minimum deal before the season tips off.

As noted by ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk, one of the team’s priorities as they evaluate roster options is bolstering their backcourt with another ball-handler and playmaker.

If Paul decides to extend his playing career into a 21st NBA season in 2025–26, geographic location could factor heavily into his decision.

He has previously expressed a desire to remain close to his family in Los Angeles, which naturally positions the Clippers as a potential landing spot.

Still, role and playing time may influence Paul’s ultimate choice. At least one report has suggested that the veteran guard is interested in maintaining a starting role – something he held for all 82 games with the San Antonio Spurs last season.

However, given the Clippers’ recent acquisition of Bradley Beal, a guaranteed starting role might be more difficult to secure in L.A.
