The Phoenix Suns are undergoing a significant transformation, embracing a fresh identity as they reshape their roster, reports Gerald Bourguet for Go PHNX.
With the departures of veterans Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant, and the addition of promising young talents like Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Mark Williams, Khaman Maluach, and Rasheer Fleming, the team is shifting its focus toward a younger, more athletic core centered around Devin Booker, who recently signed a contract extension.
This marks a notable pivot in the Suns’ approach as they move away from a star-heavy lineup to one that emphasizes youth and energy.
This transition ushers the Suns into a phase that is somewhat unfamiliar under Mat Ishbia’s relatively short period as owner: a period demanding patience.
Yet, Bourguet highlights that Ishbia’s own comments from spring exit interviews cast some doubt on how patiently the organization might actually embrace this long-term rebuilding process.
“When I make a mistake or things don’t go well, I change fast,” the Suns’ owner said candidly. “We make quick moves, and I’m not afraid to do that… Patience isn’t gonna be my strongest suit, okay? We’re gonna try to compete and win, and we’re gonna get better.”
Still, Ishbia offered a glimmer of hope for those advocating a measured rebuild.
“I’m very patient if I think we’re on the right path and plan,” he admitted. “So, say it again, I expect us to win more games next year. But let’s just say we lost more games next year, but it was aligned, the vision and the tone that I’m gonna set, and we’re on a path, then we’re gonna go that way.”
