Paul George’s recent knee injury could have meaningful short-term implications for the Philadelphia 76ers. The veteran forward reportedly suffered the injury during a workout and underwent surgery on Monday.
While he’s expected to make a full recovery and be ready for training camp, his absence – even temporarily – could influence how the Sixers approach the remainder of their offseason roster planning.
According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the situation might push the Sixers to finalize a deal with restricted free agent Quentin Grimes.
Grimes, known for his defensive versatility and outside shooting, is capable of playing either wing position and could help fill the temporary void if George’s recovery takes longer than expected.
Additionally, the injury could lead to a more secure starting role for Kelly Oubre Jr., whose scoring and athleticism were valuable for the Sixers last season. With George sidelined, Oubre may be looked at as a primary option on the wing early on.
The team may also lean more heavily on new free agent acquisition Trendon Watford.
With Watford being the only true power forward currently signed to a standard contract, his role could expand as the Sixers look to stabilize their frontcourt depth in George’s absence.
