Dallas Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison provided a positive update on Kyrie Irving’s recovery progress from a torn ACL, as reported by Grant Afseth of the Dallas Hoops Journal.

According to Harrison, Irving is ahead of expectations in his rehabilitation process.

“Kyrie is progressing faster than we initially projected, which honestly doesn’t surprise us given how intensely he approaches his rehab,” Harrison explained.

“He’s putting in serious work – sometimes two to three sessions a day. As eager as he is to get back on the court, we’re being cautious. We’re not going to let him rush it, even though we know he’s doing everything possible to return as soon as he can. He’ll be all right.”

Although the Mavericks have not provided a specific timeline for when Irving will make his return to game action, the general expectation is that he’ll be back sometime after the start of the new year.

In the meantime, the team bolstered their backcourt depth during free agency by signing veteran guard D’Angelo Russell, who is expected to take over primary point guard responsibilities while Irving continues his recovery.

Irving, who committed to Dallas long-term, recently inked a new three-year deal worth $119 million, which includes a player option, signaling both his and the organization’s confidence in a strong future together.
