The Washington Wizards have waived center Richaun Holmes, as reported by NBA insider Michael Scotto. The move comes as the franchise continues to reshape its roster ahead of the 2025–26 season.

Holmes, 31, was owed $13.28 million for next season, though only $250,000 of that was guaranteed. According to Scotto, the partial guarantee made him a likely candidate to be released or traded given Washington’s surplus of big men.

After arriving in Washington at the 2024 trade deadline from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Daniel Gafford, Holmes played 31 games during the 2024–25 campaign. He averaged 7.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and shot 64.7% from the field while starting in seven contests.

Holmes had signed an extension with the Wizards just two weeks before the team decided to waive him.

Originally drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2015, Holmes has spent time with the Suns, Kings, Mavericks, and Wizards during his nine-year career. His best statistical season came in 2020–21 with Sacramento, where he averaged 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while starting all 61 games.

For his career, Holmes has appeared in 489 regular-season games, averaging 8.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game. Despite limited playoff experience, his efficient scoring and rebounding have kept him in NBA rotations for nearly a decade.
