After logging 41 appearances during his rookie campaign, point guard Tyler Kolek is embracing a clean slate – one that comes with a revamped coaching staff and a renewed sense of purpose.

According to Newsday’s Steve Popper, Kolek views the offseason as the perfect moment to reset and recommit himself to earning a role in a competitive rotation.

“I think every season is a new opportunity,” the player said, reflecting on his mindset heading into his second year. “Every year is a fresh start, new guys come in. We signed some free agents, so every year there’s fresh opportunity.”

With new leadership in place and roster changes underway, the Marquette product sees the current phase, from summer workouts through training camp, as critical for setting the tone.

It’s not just about what he’s done before; it’s about what he continues to prove, every step of the way.

“And it starts right here,” he continued. “Proving myself here, proving myself in August workouts, prove myself in camp, and then throughout the season. Just keep on proving myself until you get to where you have to be – and then you have to do it all over again. It never really stops.”

That relentless mindset has become Kolek’s north star. Despite being a second-round pick and playing limited minutes last season, he’s showing a hunger to carve out a lasting role – and a clear understanding that nothing in the NBA is guaranteed.

Under the guidance of the new coaching staff, Kolek hopes his combination of grit, leadership, and court vision will not only earn him more minutes but help anchor the team’s evolving identity.
