The Minnesota Timberwolves’ new ownership, led by Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, is signaling big changes ahead of the 2025–26 NBA season.

During a press conference this week, Rodriguez teased a potential rebrand that would pay homage to the franchise’s most iconic era — the Kevin Garnett years. “We’ve done a lot of work in the background,” Rodriguez said, adding, “Bringing back some of the history of the KG days is something we’re very aware is important to our fan base.”

Rodriguez and Lore officially assumed full ownership of the Timberwolves after the NBA approved the transition from Glen Taylor on June 24.

Their plans for Target Center and the fan experience include innovative updates, such as a “reverse auction” for better seats during games, where upper-bowl fans can bid for empty lower-bowl seats when patrons leave early.

Veteran NBA reporter David Aldridge reported that the auction feature will debut next season, describing it as an “interesting innovation.” The ownership group is also developing a new ticketing app to improve convenience and engagement for attendees.

Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic noted that Rodriguez is working to install Madison Square Garden-style stage lighting in the arena. The lighting change could give Wolves home games a more dramatic and modern presentation, similar to what fans experience at marquee venues like MSG.

The potential rebrand and arena upgrades arrive after a historic season for Minnesota. In 2024–25, the Timberwolves reached the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive year before falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games. It also marked the first season since 2014–15 without longtime star Karl-Anthony Towns, who was traded to the New York Knicks.

Bringing back design elements or themes from the Garnett era — when the Timberwolves made their only NBA Finals push in 2004 — could resonate strongly with the fan base. KG remains one of the most beloved figures in franchise history.

While the details of the rebrand have not been announced, Rodriguez’s comments suggest the Wolves are aiming to combine nostalgia with modern enhancements.
