Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson shared high praise for Evan Mobley during a broadcast interview, forecasting a bright future for the young star.
Asked what comes next for Mobley, Atkinson said, “I don’t want to put pressure on him, but in the next 2-3 years he should be in the MVP conversation,” according to Dustin Dopirak.
Mobley, 24, is coming off a breakthrough 2024–25 season in which he secured NBA Defensive Player of the Year, earned his first All-Star nod, and was named to the All-NBA Second Team. These accolades have solidified his status as one of the league’s elite two-way players.
The forward averaged 18.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists last season while shooting 55.7% from the field and 37% from three-point range. His consistency at both ends was a cornerstone of Cleveland’s success despite a competitive Eastern Conference.
In addition to his season-long contributions, Mobley delivered a career-high 41-point performance in December against the Hornets, joining Kevin Durant as the only players under 25 to post 40+ points, 10+ rebounds, 3+ blocks, and 5+ three-pointers in a game.
Mobley has already established himself as a defensive anchor, earning two NBA All-Defensive First Team selections in just four seasons. His ability to guard multiple positions and protect the rim has earned widespread respect around the league.
