James Borrego is set to continue serving as the associate head coach for the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2025-26 NBA season.

While the New York Knicks expressed interest in bringing Borrego over to join Mike Brown’s coaching staff, he ultimately remains with the Pelicans.

The Pelicans’ assistant was also a candidate for the Knicks’ head coaching position and took part in an interview for the role.

However, the Pelicans blocked Borrego from interviewing for the Denver Nuggets’ top assistant coach vacancy, signaling the team’s intention to retain him and prevent him from making a sideways move to another franchise.

In addition to his current responsibilities, Borrego has gained recognition in recent years as a potential head coach for other prominent NBA teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
