The Los Angeles Lakers are still keeping tabs on Andrew Wiggins, but a potential trade remains unlikely due to Miami’s high asking price, according to Lakers insider Jovan Buha.
During a live Q&A session this week, Buha addressed ongoing speculation about Wiggins possibly joining Los Angeles, noting that while the forward remains “an option,” there has been little traction between the two sides recently.
Buha also said that his comments about Miami’s trade demands sparked widespread attention, which he called “random” and “overblown,” adding that no team, including the Lakers, appears willing to meet the Heat’s current price for Wiggins.
Wiggins, 30, was acquired by Miami at the trade deadline in a five-team blockbuster that also sent Jimmy Butler to Golden State. Since arriving in South Beach, Wiggins has averaged 19.0 points and 3.3 assists over 17 games, shooting 45.8 percent from the floor.
His standout performances, including a 42-point outing against Charlotte on March 23, have bolstered his trade value, but Miami reportedly sees him as a premium asset in negotiations.
The Lakers, who are seeking to retool their roster following an early playoff exit, have explored several trade possibilities this offseason. Wiggins’ playoff experience and two-way skillset make him a logical fit, though the Heat’s demands currently seem to exceed what Los Angeles is willing to offer.
Over his 11 NBA seasons, Wiggins has averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 766 games. He was instrumental in the Warriors’ 2022 championship run, earning praise for his defensive efforts and clutch performances.
While the Lakers continue to weigh their options, Wiggins remains on their radar — but unless Miami lowers its expectations, a deal may not materialize soon.
