Jahlil Okafor, the former third overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, has officially signed with Levanga Hokkaido, a professional basketball team in Japan, for the upcoming season, reports Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files.
This move marks the next chapter in Okafor’s career, as he looks to reestablish himself overseas after struggling to secure a consistent role in the NBA in recent years.
Last season, Okafor spent the majority of his time competing in the NBA G League, where he aimed to showcase his skills and earn another opportunity at the highest level.
He did receive a brief NBA stint, appearing in a single game with the Indiana Pacers after being signed to a 10-day contract. However, that opportunity didn’t lead to a longer-term deal.
Okafor has played 7 NBA seasons for 5 teams, including the 76ers and Pelicans. He has averaged 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in 248 regular-season games.
