The Orlando Magic have officially withdrawn their two-way qualifying offer to guard Mac McClung, making him an unrestricted free agent, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac.
This move gives McClung the freedom to explore opportunities with other teams without the limitations of being a restricted free agent.
According to Smith, the Magic’s decision was made with the high-flying guard’s career prospects in mind.
With Orlando’s backcourt already filled with a mix of established veterans and promising young guards, McClung did not have a clear pathway to meaningful minutes on the NBA roster.
By rescinding the qualifying offer, the organization allows him to pursue better opportunities elsewhere. Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel also confirmed the report.
McClung spent the entirety of last season on a two-way contract with Orlando, but saw very limited NBA action, appearing in just two games.
Instead, he spent most of the season starring for the Osceola Magic, Orlando’s G League affiliate.
In 44 appearances, he averaged 23.0 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds in 32.4 minutes per game, while shooting 48.1 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from three-point range, and 82.8 percent from the free-throw line.
His standout play earned him First Team All-NBA G League honors for the 2024–25 season, following his G League MVP performance in the previous year.
Despite limited NBA playing time, McClung has built a strong reputation, in part due to his back-to-back-to-back victories in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, which have raised his profile with fans and around the league.
Although the flashy point guard has only appeared in six NBA games, he has already spent time with several teams including the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Philadelphia 76ers.
He is still eligible to sign a two-way contract for one more season, making him a potential value addition for a team seeking backcourt depth and G League star power.
Orlando, meanwhile, currently has just one player, Ethan Thompson, signed to a two-way deal, leaving two slots available.
However, the Magic appear to be prioritizing other players for those roles, giving McClung the chance to seek a better fit elsewhere as he aims to convert his G League success into a more stable NBA role.
