The Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns are in advanced talks to expand the Kevin Durant trade into a record-setting seven-team deal, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic.
League sources say the deal would involve the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Minnesota Timberwolves in addition to Houston and Phoenix.
While no agreement is finalized, multiple frameworks are being discussed as of Wednesday night.
The trade expansion builds on Durant’s recent move from Phoenix to Houston. In that deal, the Suns received Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-rounders.
In the potential seven-team structure, Clint Capela would be sent to the Rockets in a sign-and-trade arrangement, according to Katz. Durant remains the centerpiece, heading to a Rockets team that finished second in the West at 52–30.
Phoenix would still receive Green and Brooks, while the rest of the assets under discussion stem from previously agreed-upon draft-night trades that are not official until July 6.
Only five NBA veterans are currently part of the negotiation: Durant, Brooks, Green, Capela, and Daeqwon Plowden. The remaining components are centered on cap management and draft-pick positioning.
This trade, if finalized, would surpass the six-team Klay Thompson deal last summer as the largest in league history. Prior to that, the five-team Russell Westbrook deal in 2021 held the record.
Houston aims to build a title-contending roster around Durant, who averaged 26.6 points across 75 games this season. He joins a core featuring Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., and Fred VanVleet.
Phoenix, meanwhile, enters a new phase after a 36–46 finish and no postseason appearance. The return of young scorers and draft capital gives the franchise multiple options entering free agency.
