The Sacramento Kings have decided to exercise Keon Ellis’s $2.3 million team option for the 2025–26 season.

Had they declined it, Ellis would have entered restricted free agency, but with the option picked up, he will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026 – unless he and the Kings agree to an extension beforehand.

The player, who went undrafted out of Alabama in 2022, is represented by agents Andy Shiffman and Mark Bartelstein.

In his first full NBA season, Ellis saw action in 80 games (including spot starts), averaging 8.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals over 24.4 minutes per night.

He also proved to be a reliable shooter, connecting on 43.3% of his four three-point attempts per game.

Sacramento’s decision comes amid significant roster changes this offseason, most notably the blockbuster trade that sent long-time point guard De’Aaron Fox to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Zach LaVine.

With the backcourt in flux, retaining Ellis, known for his defensive tenacity and shooting, provides the Kings with stability as they reshape their lineup.
