Moritz Wagner is officially a free agent after the Orlando Magic declined his $11 million team option for the upcoming season, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto. Despite the decision, the Magic have shown interest in re-signing the 28-year-old center.
Wagner averaged career-highs in points (12.9), three-point shooting (.360), and rebounds (4.9) during the 2024-25 NBA season. His improvement on the offensive end was a key factor for Orlando as they secured the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs with a 41-41 record.
The German big man was on a two-year, $22 million contract with Orlando. His efficient shooting, including a 56.2% field goal percentage and a strong 71.8% from the free-throw line, contributed to his career-best campaign.
Wagner played 30 games this season, averaging 18.8 minutes per game. His ability to stretch the floor with reliable three-point shooting (.360 on 2.5 attempts per game) made him a valuable asset in Orlando’s rotation.
The Magic’s decision to decline the team option suggests they may explore a more flexible contract structure or roster moves in the offseason. However, Wagner is expected to attract interest from multiple teams given his blend of size, shooting, and rebounding skills.
Orlando’s run in the playoffs ended in the first round with a 4-1 loss to the Boston Celtics, the Eastern Conference’s second seed.
