Moritz Wagner’s season was cut short by a torn ACL in December, but he remains hopeful for his future with the Orlando Magic.

The Magic have an $11MM player option on Wagner’s contract, with a decision due by June 29. If declined, he becomes a free agent.

Wagner has found stability in Orlando since signing with the team in 2021 after a journeyman start to his NBA career. He was having a career-best season, averaging 12.9 points and 4.9 rebounds, before his injury.

He was also among the top bench scorers in the league, making him a potential Sixth Man of the Year candidate.

Despite the setback, Wagner remains optimistic. Reflecting on his injury, he explained, “You can sulk about it or use it as an opportunity to grow. I tried to look at the game from a different perspective, learning from the experience.”

As he recovers from knee surgery, Wagner is focused on being ready for training camp. He has spent time in the weight room and on the court throughout his rehab process.

Wagner also expressed his appreciation for being part of Orlando’s ongoing journey, saying, “Being a part of something bigger than your individual career is rare… it feels good to be part of that journey of an organization.”

Now, Wagner’s future with the Magic hangs in the balance, both on the court and financially, as he hopes to continue with the team that’s become his home.
