Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Greg St. Jean has officially joined the Slovenian national team’s coaching staff for EuroBasket 2025, according to a report by Svet24.

The 35-year-old will serve under head coach Aleksander Sekulic and assist with the team’s preparations, beginning with group play in Katowice, Poland, and continuing into the knockout stage in Riga, Latvia.

St. Jean’s addition marks a reunion with Luka Doncic, who remains the centerpiece of Slovenia’s national team and recently completed his first season with the Lakers after a high-profile trade from Dallas.

Sources told Svet24 that multiple candidates were considered, but St. Jean was ultimately selected for his familiarity with Doncic and extensive NBA experience.

The assistant coach previously worked with the Slovenian star during their time with the Mavericks from 2021 to 2023, and also maintained a close connection with the national team during that period.

After a stint with the Phoenix Suns, St. Jean rejoined the Lakers ahead of the 2024–25 season as part of JJ Redick’s first-year staff.

This marks his second run with the franchise, having served as a player development coach from 2019 to 2021 and winning an NBA title in the 2020 Orlando bubble.

Slovenia will be competing in Group D at EuroBasket 2025, with the group stage held in Katowice starting August 27.

Doncic, 26, is expected to lead the roster following another productive NBA season, which included averages of 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists in 50 games split between the Mavericks and Lakers.

He played in five playoff games for Los Angeles this spring, posting 30.2 points per game despite battling a back injury during the first-round exit against the Timberwolves.
