Chris Paul enters this offseason as an unrestricted free agent, eager to continue his NBA career into a 21st season.

However, Paul has expressed a strong desire to play closer to his family and their home in Los Angeles.

Last season, the player was a consistent presence for the San Antonio Spurs, starting all 82 games.

But with the Spurs acquiring De’Aaron Fox at the trade deadline and drafting promising young guards Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper in consecutive years, it appears Paul’s chapter in San Antonio is coming to a close.

One obvious next step seemed to be a move to the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs need an experienced point guard to lead the team until Kyrie Irving recovers from his torn ACL, expected to return around midseason.

Paul’s veteran leadership and skill set would make him an ideal fit for that role.

Despite this potential opportunity, the 40-year-old guard is prioritizing proximity to home.

Throughout last season, Paul openly shared how difficult it was being so far from his family, who are settled in Los Angeles.

This personal consideration has led Paul to focus on teams located on the West Coast, which could include the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings, or Phoenix Suns.
