The Los Angeles Lakers have moved beyond preliminary interest and are now engaged in deeper discussions to acquire Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins, according to a report by Anthony Irwin of ClutchPoints.

Talks between the Lakers and Heat have intensified, with both teams evaluating a framework that would send Rui Hachimura and additional expiring contracts to South Beach in exchange for the 30-year-old wing.

Wiggins, who was traded to Miami in February as part of a five-team deal, played 17 games with the Heat in the regular season, averaging 19.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game on 45.8% shooting from the field.

In the postseason, his production dropped to 11.5 points per game across four games, as Miami was swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round.

The Heat have reportedly maintained Wiggins’ availability since the start of the offseason. Irwin’s latest reporting suggests the Lakers’ inquiry has evolved into more advanced trade dialogue.

The Lakers finished third in the Western Conference with a 50–32 record but were eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games.

Los Angeles is expected to be aggressive this summer in reshaping its roster around LeBron James and Luka Doncic, who was acquired before the February trade deadline.

Wiggins, a former No. 1 overall pick, brings playoff experience and wing defense, areas the Lakers struggled with during their postseason exit.

The Canadian forward began the 2024–25 season with the Golden State Warriors, where he averaged 17.6 points in 43 games before being included in the midseason deal that also sent Jimmy Butler to Golden State.
