Newly appointed Minnesota Timberwolves owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez recently shared their plans and approach for the franchise in an interview with Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Both emphasized their intention to focus on ownership responsibilities while entrusting basketball decisions to the team’s experienced leadership.

Rodriguez was clear about their roles, stating, “Let’s make it very clear, Marc and I are not making basketball decisions… What we’ve learned is some of the best governors throughout sports, they spend most of their time in the front end hiring the right people.

“… We give them guidelines, we give them budgets, and then Tim (Connelly) can cook. And then we stay out of his way. That’s also really important.”

This approach highlights their confidence in Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly and his staff to manage the team’s basketball operations independently, while they provide oversight and support from an ownership perspective.

Lore and Rodriguez see their primary responsibility as setting clear expectations and ensuring the organization has the resources it needs to succeed.

By maintaining a hands-off approach when it comes to day-to-day basketball decisions, the new owners aim to foster an environment where the basketball staff can focus on building a competitive roster and achieving success on the court.

Their strategy reflects a modern ownership style that prioritizes hiring skilled executives and empowering them to lead.
