The Miami Heat are among the teams with serious interest in Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga as free agency approaches, according to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.
After missing out on Kevin Durant, Miami has turned its attention to the 22-year-old, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. League sources told Slater the Heat are expected to be one of multiple teams exploring a potential move for Kuminga as the market develops.
Kuminga, who just completed his fourth NBA season, averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists across 47 regular-season games while shooting 45.4 percent from the field. He also contributed 15.3 points per game during Golden State’s eight-game postseason run, hitting 48.4 percent of his shots and 40 percent from three.
In January, the forward posted a standout month with 20.6 points per game and later went on a 34-game streak of double-digit scoring. He set a franchise record with 138 dunks during the 2024-25 campaign.
Despite the production, Kuminga voiced frustration over an inconsistent role. “It only happens five games on, 10 games off,” he told The Athletic. “I want it to be a consistent role. Because I know what I got. I know what I could bring.”
Miami, who finished 10th in the East at 37-45 and exited in the first round after being swept by Cleveland, is expected to be aggressive in the offseason after another early playoff exit. The Heat rank near the bottom of the league in scoring at 110.6 points per game, and Kuminga’s athleticism and finishing ability could help address that deficiency.
The Brooklyn Nets are also viewed as a potential suitor, though their cap flexibility took a hit following a recent trade, per Slater.
Kuminga remains focused on development, trusting his agent Aaron Turner to navigate the upcoming process. “Wherever I go, wherever I’ll be, off the rip, I just want them to be like, ‘Oh, yeah, he deserved what he got,’” Kuminga said.
His rookie contract, valued at $24.9 million over four years, is expiring this offseason, and the Warriors will need to decide whether to retain the young forward or facilitate a potential sign-and-trade.
