Multiple reports are clashing over Jrue Holiday’s state of mind following his trade from the Boston Celtics to the Portland Trail Blazers.

According to Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com, a source close to the situation claimed Holiday was “pissed” about being dealt to Portland. The report said the veteran guard was unhappy with the move but would remain professional if not re-routed elsewhere.

“But he’s not happy with this deal,” the source told Bulpett. “I’ll be surprised if Portland doesn’t move him on if they can, because right now he does not want to go there.”

Holiday was traded on June 23, as Boston sent the 34-year-old to the Blazers in exchange for Anfernee Simons and two second-round picks. The deal helped the Celtics reduce their long-term salary commitments, shedding over $100 million tied to Holiday’s contract through 2028.

However, Aaron J. Fentress of The Oregonian posted on social media that “two NBA sources” disputed the report, stating Holiday is not upset about the move. “We will all find out from him in due time,” Fentress added.

Holiday, a two-time All-Star and five-time All-Defensive Team selection, was a key contributor during the Celtics’ 2024 championship run. He played two seasons in Boston before being traded in a broader roster restructuring that also included Kristaps Porzingis being sent to Atlanta.

Portland ended the 2024–25 season 36–46, missing the playoffs for the second straight year and finishing 12th in the Western Conference. The franchise has focused on developing a younger core built around Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe.

If Holiday stays in Portland, he would be the oldest player on a rebuilding roster. His fit with the team’s timeline and direction has prompted speculation that the Trail Blazers could look to re-trade him ahead of the 2025–26 season.

Boston’s motives for the deal centered on long-term flexibility. With Jayson Tatum sidelined indefinitely following Achilles surgery, the Celtics pivoted toward cap management.
