Dejounte Murray did not hold back when describing his lone season with the New Orleans Pelicans.

In a recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast, the 28-year-old guard criticized the franchise for what he said was a lack of support during one of the most challenging periods of his life — both personally and professionally.

“It was a situation where, like, I got all these problems going on… I broke my hand, I’m recovering. My mom had a stroke, one of my cousins got killed, then my uncle overdosed,” Murray said, via ClutchPoints. “I’m not getting what I need in the organization. It’s hard for me to get my training time. It’s hard for me to get lifts. It’s hard for me to get my own court time. So, you can only imagine where my mental was at.”

Murray was traded to the Pelicans on July 6, 2024, in exchange for Dyson Daniels, E.J. Liddell, Larry Nance Jr., Cody Zeller (via sign-and-trade), and two future first-round picks.

He started 31 games for New Orleans during the 2024–25 season, averaging 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 2.0 steals while shooting 39.3% from the field and 29.9% from three.

Murray’s season was cut short on January 31 after he tore his right Achilles in a game against the Boston Celtics.

The Pelicans finished 14th in the Western Conference with a 21–61 record, one of the worst marks in the league.
