New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray has torn his right Achilles tendon, ending his 2024/25 season, per NBA insider Chris Haynes.

The injury occurred during Friday’s loss to Boston when Murray landed awkwardly after a floater attempt, clutching the back of his right leg. He limped off the court but did not return.

While the Pelicans have yet to confirm the diagnosis, head coach Willie Green said Murray would undergo imaging. However, Shams Charania of ESPN also reports it’s an Achilles tear.

Murray’s first year in New Orleans has been disastrous. After missing the start of the season when his mother suffered a stroke, he fractured his left hand in the season opener, sidelining him for 18 games.

Upon returning, Murray struggled, shooting just 39.3% from the field. The injury-riddled Pelicans are 12-37.

Given Achilles’s recovery timelines, Murray’s readiness for the 2025/26 season is uncertain. With two guaranteed years left on his contract, his absence leaves CJ McCollum and Jose Alvarado to handle backcourt duties.

The Pelicans cannot seek a Disabled Player Exception since the January 15 deadline has passed.
