Speculation around Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future has swirled since the Milwaukee Bucks’ early playoff exit, but league sources insist the two-time MVP remains off the trade market.
According to a report by Adam Zagoria of NJ Advance Media, an NBA executive familiar with the Bucks’ plans stated clearly, “Giannis isn’t going anywhere this summer.”
The executive, who requested anonymity, emphasized that the Bucks believe they can still compete at a high level with Antetokounmpo as their franchise cornerstone.
Trade rumors intensified following Milwaukee’s first-round loss to the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 NBA Playoffs, prompting speculation about a potential roster overhaul.
Despite the buzz, multiple insiders have confirmed that no trade discussions involving Antetokounmpo are taking place.
Milwaukee finished the regular season 48–34, good for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, and captured the NBA Cup in December.
The front office’s decision to trade Khris Middleton midseason raised questions about the franchise’s direction, but recent league chatter points toward a retooling strategy rather than a full rebuild.
Veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein reported that Milwaukee may use the 2025–26 season as a transitional year, building around Antetokounmpo while evaluating the next competitive window.
Several teams, including the Knicks, Raptors, and Rockets, have been linked to Antetokounmpo in recent months.
However, the executive cited by NJ Advance Media dismissed New York’s chances of landing the All-NBA forward, stating, “The Knicks cannot get Giannis. They don’t have enough assets.”
Houston, coming off a 52-win season, and Toronto, which missed the playoffs, have monitored the situation but have not made headway in talks.
Antetokounmpo remains under contract through at least the 2026–27 season, with a player option for 2027–28. He averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists this year while shooting 60.1 percent from the field.
