Despite growing chatter linking Domantas Sabonis to Toronto, the Raptors have no interest in acquiring the Kings All-Star, according to veteran reporter Doug Smith of the Toronto Star.
During a recent interview on Sactown Sports 1140, Smith stated that Sabonis’ name “has never come up in a conversation with anybody involved with the Raptors for a year and a half.”
Sabonis, 29, is coming off another productive campaign in Sacramento, where he averaged 19.1 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 6.0 assists across 70 games.
His contract — a four-year, $186 million deal signed in 2023 — runs through the 2027–28 season.
Toronto’s reluctance to pursue Sabonis stems from its current roster structure, as the front office remains confident in starting center Jakob Poeltl.
“They’re pretty happy with Jakob Poeltl with two years left in his deal at $20 million a year,” Smith said, via HoopsHype. “Sabonis is a great player. No question about it. But I’ve never heard his name linked to Toronto.”
The Raptors concluded the 2024–25 season with a 30–52 record, finishing 11th in the Eastern Conference and missing the postseason for the third straight year.
Poeltl, who rejoined the franchise in 2023, remains under contract and logged consistent minutes throughout the season as the team’s primary rim protector.
Meanwhile, the Kings finished 40–42 and were eliminated from playoff contention after a play-in loss to the Mavericks, closing a disappointing year that included the departures of head coach Mike Brown and guard De’Aaron Fox.
Despite speculation fueled by his strong statistical output and Toronto’s need for interior scoring, no front-office contact has ever indicated interest in the Lithuanian big man.
