The Portland Trail Blazers are set to fill one of the recent vacancies on their coaching staff by hiring Quinton Crawford, the head coach of the Sacramento Kings’ G League affiliate, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes.
Crawford will join the Blazers as an assistant coach under Chauncey Billups, who recently secured a multi-year contract extension in April, signaling the organization’s commitment to continuity and growth.
At just 34 years old, Crawford has already made a significant impact in the G League.
In his inaugural season coaching the Stockton Kings, he led the team to a G League championship, defeating the Osceola Magic in a tightly contested three-game finals series.
His coaching performance earned him recognition as he finished third in the voting for G League Coach of the Year.
Before his role with the Kings, Crawford gained extensive NBA coaching experience across multiple franchises.
He spent time on the staff of the Charlotte Hornets, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Phoenix Suns.
Notably, Crawford was part of the Lakers’ coaching staff during their 2020 NBA championship run, working alongside head coach Frank Vogel.
After Vogel and his coaching staff were dismissed by the Suns last spring, Crawford quickly found a new opportunity with Sacramento, joining their organization in September.
His transition to the Kings’ G League team allowed him to showcase his leadership and coaching acumen at the developmental level.
The Trail Blazers created three assistant coaching vacancies last month after deciding not to renew the contracts of Roy Rogers, Chris Fleming, and Ryan Gomes.
In addition to bringing Crawford aboard, Portland is in the process of retaining key members of its staff.
Assistant coaches Nate Bjorkgren and Ronnie Burrell, as well as analytics coach Jacob Mooallem, are all being re-signed, according to confirmation from agent Andy Miller of Klutch Sports, as reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
This blend of fresh coaching talent and staff continuity reflects the Blazers’ strategy to strengthen their support system for Billups and enhance their team’s performance moving forward.
