Jrue Holiday is set to return to action just in time for the start of the Boston Celtics’ second-round playoff series against the New York Knicks.
According to Brian Robb of MassLive.com, Holiday was officially removed from the team’s injury report on Sunday, clearing the way for him to suit up in Game 1 on Monday night at TD Garden.
Boston’s clean bill of health means the Celtics will be at full strength as they begin what is expected to be a highly competitive series.
Holiday had missed the final three games of Boston’s first-round sweep over the Orlando Magic due to a strained hamstring, but his recovery appears to have gone according to plan.
His return is especially timely given the defensive challenge that awaits. Holiday will likely draw the primary assignment of guarding Knicks star guard Jalen Brunson, who has been on a tear this season.
Brunson averaged 26.3 points and 5.8 assists per game against the Celtics during the regular season, but Boston managed to win all four matchups between the two teams.
Despite posting his lowest scoring average (11.1 points per game) since his rookie year, Holiday has remained a critical piece of the Celtics’ championship-contending roster.
His impact extends well beyond the box score, providing defensive stability, veteran leadership, and the ability to control pace in high-stakes situations. He also contributed 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in the regular season, starting 62 games.
Earlier this season, Holiday was recognized for his leadership and professionalism by being named the recipient of the NBA’s 2024 Sportsmanship Award. That honor complements his on-court accolades, which include being named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2023.
During last year’s postseason run, Holiday was a vital contributor to Boston’s deep playoff push, averaging 13.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game with only 1.5 turnovers – demonstrating his trademark poise and efficiency under pressure.
As the Celtics gear up for a tough series against a battle-tested Knicks squad, Holiday’s return adds a layer of defensive toughness and playoff experience that could prove crucial.
