The Atlanta Hawks have officially launched their search for a new president of basketball operations, a pivotal role that will help shape the franchise’s long-term vision and competitive trajectory.
As part of the early stages of this process, the team has already conducted an interview with Elton Brand, a key member of the Philadelphia 76ers’ front office and a respected figure in league executive circles.
In addition to Brand, the Hawks have also engaged in discussions with two recently available executives: Calvin Booth, who served as the general manager of the Denver Nuggets, and Monte McNair, the former architect of the Sacramento Kings’ roster.
Both Booth and McNair were let go by their organizations in recent weeks, making them high-profile free agents in the executive talent pool. Their experience in building playoff-caliber teams adds credibility to their candidacies.
The Hawks are reportedly casting a wide net as they evaluate potential leaders.
Among those under consideration is former NBA player and entrepreneur Travis Hansen, whose post-playing career has included various business ventures and leadership roles outside basketball.
While Hansen lacks front office experience, his ties to the game and Atlanta may make him a compelling out-of-the-box candidate.
Also on Atlanta’s radar is a familiar face: Shareef Abdur-Rahim, a former Hawks All-Star who currently serves as the president of the NBA G League.
Abdur-Rahim has steadily built a reputation as a capable executive within the league’s broader development structure and could bring both institutional knowledge and a developmental focus to the Hawks’ front office.
As the interview process unfolds, the Hawks appear to be balancing experience, familiarity, and innovation in their quest to find a leader capable of steering the franchise into its next era.
