Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is no longer considered one of the NBA’s top 10 players, according to multiple league executives.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported on Monday’s episode of Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective that there has been a significant shift in how Morant is viewed around the league.
“When I’m talking to people around the league, GMs, execs, scouts, I don’t have people telling me that they think Ja is a top-10 player when he’s healthy anymore,” MacMahon shared, via Bleacher Report.
Morant, once a rising star and one of the most electrifying young talents in the NBA, has had a rough 2024-25 season. His scoring average of 23.2 points per game this season is his lowest since the 2020-21 campaign.
Along with this dip in scoring, Morant has struggled with ball control, recording a career-high 3.7 turnovers per game. While he’s still putting up 7.3 assists per game, his inconsistency has caused some uncertainty around his long-term value as a franchise player.
Adding to the doubts, there have been growing rumors about Morant potentially being available on the trade market. MacMahon mentioned that there’s a lot of “whispering and rumbling” among executives that Morant could be moved if the Grizzlies decide to shake things up this offseason.
The Grizzlies’ disappointing first-round playoff sweep at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder has only fueled speculation about Morant’s future in Memphis. Despite leading the team to the playoffs, Memphis struggled in the postseason, failing to make an impact in the postseason as they were eliminated in quick fashion.
With rumors swirling about a potential trade, it remains to be seen whether Morant can bounce back next season and reassert himself as one of the NBA’s elite players. For now, his stock appears to be on the decline, and the whispers from around the league are getting louder.
