Stephen Curry addressed his fiery exchange with Dillon Brooks during the Golden State Warriors’ 109-106 win over the Houston Rockets on Monday night.
The two players got into it after a hard screen set by Brooks, resulting in a brief but intense confrontation that saw both Curry and Brooks receive technical fouls.
Postgame, Curry explained his actions, stating, “That was so stupid because he had did it literally the play before, and I just returned the favor. But they didn’t see him. They saw me. It’s like siblings — the second ones will get in trouble.”
The altercation took place during a high-energy second quarter that was marred by multiple technical fouls and a flagrant foul. Curry’s comments highlighted the frustration that often accompanies such on-court skirmishes. However, the Warriors were able to push past the Rockets in the closing moments of the game, taking a commanding 3-1 lead in their first-round playoff series.
Jimmy Butler’s return to the lineup was a major factor in the Warriors’ victory, as he scored 27 points, including five crucial free throws in the final minute. His game-winning rebound with four seconds left sealed the win. Despite a tough shooting night from beyond the arc, Curry contributed 17 points and guided Golden State through the tense moments.
Brandin Podziemski also played a vital role, contributing 26 points, with six three-pointers to help the Warriors stay ahead. Meanwhile, the Rockets’ Alperen Sengun had an impressive outing, scoring 31 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.
As tensions flared between Curry and Brooks, the physical play was a reflection of the intensity of this playoff series. Golden State now heads to Houston with the chance to close out the series in Game 5 on Wednesday. If the Warriors win, they will eliminate the No. 2 seeded Rockets from the playoffs.
