The New Orleans Pelicans announced Monday that two players – center Kelly Olynyk and wing Brandon Boston Jr. – recently underwent surgical procedures to address lingering injuries.
Olynyk had a “minimally invasive” surgery on his left heel last Friday at the Fortius Clinic in London, along with an ultrasound-guided tendon debridement.
The veteran big man had missed the final three games of the season due to left Achilles tendonosis, and this procedure was designed to treat that issue.
Meanwhile, Boston underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle on Friday in Los Angeles. The 23-year-old had been out since February 8 because of a stress reaction in the ankle.
Both players are expected to require approximately three to four months of recovery time, potentially putting them on track to return by the start of training camp in the fall.
Still, the Pelicans will monitor their progress closely this offseason.
Olynyk, who joined New Orleans via the February trade with Toronto involving Brandon Ingram, emerged as a starter, averaging 10.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists across 20 games, while shooting .500/.389/.754.
He is owed about $13.4 million for the 2025-26 season.
Boston, originally claimed off waivers from San Antonio, worked his way from a two-way contract into the Pelicans’ standard roster.
He appeared in 42 games (10 starts), posting averages of 10.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists, with a shooting line of .436/.350/.788.
New Orleans holds a $2.35 million team option on Boston for next season. His surgery could impact that decision, though the team could still look to re-sign him later, depending on his recovery.
