Pelicans forward/center Kelly Olynyk has wasted no time making his presence felt in New Orleans, despite having played just two games with his new team since being acquired in the Brandon Ingram trade at this month’s deadline.
The versatile big man was inserted into the starting lineup immediately upon his debut last Friday and has already made a significant impact.
On Sunday, he dominated the glass with 15 rebounds in a victory over the San Antonio Spurs, showcasing his ability to contribute in multiple ways.
Through his first two games, Olynyk has logged 49 minutes and boasts an impressive plus-minus rating of +32, underscoring his effectiveness on the floor.
Beyond his on-court contributions, Olynyk has also drawn praise for his professionalism and leadership, qualities that have resonated with his new teammates and coaching staff.
Pelicans head coach Willie Green spoke highly of the veteran, expressing excitement about the energy, experience, and skill set Olynyk brings to the team.
As Rod Walker of NOLA.com reports, Green values Olynyk’s ability to space the floor, facilitate the offense, and provide stability in the frontcourt.
“He’s a vet. He’s been in situations where he’s been on a few teams. We all kinda run similar plays and have similar concepts,” Green said.
“The terminology may be a bit different, but he’ll pick it up quickly. He’s an extremely talented player with his ability to pass, stretch the floor and rebound. He brings more size to our group, so we’re excited to get him and have him on the floor.”
