The Phoenix Suns are exploring a high-profile front office shakeup, with former Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers emerging as a potential target, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

Phoenix, eliminated from playoff contention on April 9, is navigating a pivotal offseason following the dismissal of head coach Mike Budenholzer one day after the regular season ended.

Stein reported on his Substack that Suns owner Mat Ishbia has long maintained interest in convincing Myers to return to an executive role, despite widespread skepticism around the league about the team’s chances of pulling it off.

Myers, who led the Warriors to four NBA championships during his tenure, has also been linked to front office discussions in Atlanta, where he previously worked with newly promoted Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh.

Saleh was hired away from Golden State and has experience across scouting and cap strategy, two areas Myers routinely emphasized in building contending rosters.

Sources suggest Myers’ reluctance to leave the West Coast could be a significant barrier to joining either the Suns or the Hawks, both of which would require a major relocation.

Phoenix’s pursuit comes after a 36-46 finish, placing 11th in the Western Conference despite a roster featuring All-Stars Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal.

The franchise has faced scrutiny for underwhelming postseason results since their 2021 Finals run, and a potential move to lure Myers signals Ishbia’s intent to reset the team’s long-term vision.

Phoenix ranked near the bottom in defensive rating and struggled with consistency throughout the season, often lacking direction in late-game execution and player rotations.

Bringing in a seasoned executive like Myers could represent a shift toward a more stable basketball operations structure, something the Suns have lacked amid frequent leadership changes.

However, multiple executives reportedly doubt Myers would accept a position under current conditions, citing both personal and strategic factors influencing his decision-making process.

The Suns are expected to evaluate several candidates for their front office vacancy, but no name carries more weight or success than Myers, who is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished executives in modern NBA history.
