The Houston Rockets managed to put up only 85 points in their Game 1 loss to the Golden State Warriors in the opening round of the playoffs – an output that simply won’t cut it if they hope to advance.
As Michael Wright of ESPN points out, the higher-seeded Rockets will need a significant offensive turnaround if they want to take control of the series.
Following the 95-85 defeat, Rockets head coach Ime Udoka acknowledged the team’s offensive struggles but maintained a level-headed perspective, especially considering the inexperience of some players.
“Some guys did struggle offensively – you’re not going to overreact to one game,” Udoka said during his postgame comments.
“But if guys do play better, we have a chance there. Ten-point loss and like I said, holding somebody to 95; it was an offensively poor showing. The defense was good enough. But I’m not going to overreact to that game. It’s some of those guys’ first times and we had our chances.”
Despite the poor shooting night and missed opportunities, Udoka emphasized the solid defensive effort, noting that the team’s ability to contain Golden State gave them a fighting chance.
The message is clear: the Rockets will need more offensive production across the board, especially from key contributors, if they intend to bounce back and make this series competitive.
