Zalgiris Kaunas has secured American guard Isaiah Wong through 2028 in a deal that could reshape both the player’s career and the Lithuanian club’s future. The 24-year-old’s contract includes an opt-out clause allowing him to return to the NBA this summer – a rare concession for European clubs.

Wong joined Zalgiris in February as an emergency replacement for Lonnie Walker IV, who left for the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite arriving midseason, the former Charlotte Hornets guard quickly impressed team officials with his adaptability and scoring punch.

“Finding reliable secondary guards is always challenging in today’s market,” said Zalgiris sports director Gediminas Navickas. “Isaiah showed potential from day one and has clear room for growth.” The 6’3″ guard averaged 6.4 points in limited EuroLeague action (12 MPG) while posting stronger numbers in Lithuania’s domestic league.

NBA insider Michael Scotto revealed the contract’s unique flexibility: “Wong’s deal has opt-outs for the NBA, EuroLeague and China.” This summer’s NBA out clause makes Wong an intriguing two-way contract candidate should he choose to return stateside.

The move represents a calculated risk for both parties. Zalgiris gains long-term backcourt stability after finishing 13th in EuroLeague, while Wong maintains his NBA aspirations while developing in Europe’s top competition.

Wong’s performance in Zalgiris’ final games could determine whether he tests the NBA market or commits to becoming a cornerstone for the Lithuanian powerhouse.
