Former NBA center Kyle O’Quinn has announced his retirement from basketball and accepted a new role at Norfolk State University, where he will serve as the executive director of athletic advancement.

O’Quinn shared the news this week with Tina Cervasio of FOX 5 NY.

Drafted 49th overall in the 2012 NBA Draft, O’Quinn played for the Orlando Magic, New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, and Philadelphia 76ers from 2012 to 2020, making 472 regular-season appearances.

A backup center, he averaged 5.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.0 block over 14.2 minutes per game.

After leaving the NBA in 2020, O’Quinn played internationally in Turkey, France, Japan, and China from 2021 to 2023.

At Norfolk State, O’Quinn was a standout player from 2008 to 2012, winning two MEAC Defensive Player of the Year awards and the MEAC Player of the Year award in 2012.

His No. 10 jersey was retired in 2019, following his role in leading Norfolk State to a historic upset over Missouri in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
