The Miami Heat are actively campaigning for Tyler Herro as a candidate for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award, highlighting his growth across their social media platforms, reports Ira Winderman of The Sun-Sentinel.
Now in his sixth season, the 25-year-old shooting guard is putting together the most impressive offensive campaign of his career, posting personal bests with 23.8 points and 5.5 assists per game.
Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra has taken notice of Herro’s evolution, crediting his development to the challenges the team has faced throughout the year – particularly during stretches of adversity where Herro was forced to step into a larger, more versatile role.
“His maturity offensively and his role for our team has grown the last couple of months,” Spoelstra explained. “And that’s due to all these pressure situations that we’ve been in, where everything just feels heightened and where we had injuries and he had to play a different way for us to be successful.”
The coach pointed to Herro’s patience and poise as a sign of real progress. Rather than forcing the action, the young guard is reading the game with greater clarity and making the most of each opportunity.
“He’s just more patient. He’s allowing the game to happen,” Spoelstra said. “His skill set can just take advantage of those situations.”
From creating his shot to orchestrating for others, Herro’s expanded offensive repertoire has become a key ingredient in Miami’s attack.
