The New Orleans Pelicans have officially ruled out Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum for the rest of the 2024-25 season.

Chris Haynes reported that Williamson is dealing with a back bone contusion, while McCollum is sidelined with a foot contusion.

New Orleans, already eliminated from playoff contention, decided to shut down two of its top scorers with nine games left in the regular season.

Williamson, 24, appeared in just 30 games this season, averaging 24.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in 28.6 minutes per game. Injuries have continued to be a concern for the former No. 1 overall pick.

McCollum, 33, has averaged 21.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 32.7 minutes per game this season.

With the Pelicans sitting at 21-54 and 14th in the Western Conference, the team is shifting its focus to next season.

New Orleans struggled to stay competitive throughout the year, especially with Williamson missing extended time.

The Pelicans’ roster has been plagued by injuries over the past few seasons, making it difficult to build sustained success.

Williamson’s availability remains a major concern for the franchise as they look to retool in the offseason.
