Memphis Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman addressed the media to briefly explain the organization’s decision to part ways with head coach Taylor Jenkins.
Throughout his remarks, Kleiman clarified that the choice to fire Jenkins was solely his, stating emphatically that the decision was “mine and mine only.”
He also emphasized that no players were involved or consulted in the process, reinforcing that this was an executive move made in what he believed to be the franchise’s best interest.
“Urgency is a core principle of ours,” Kleiman stated, underlining the importance of decisive action. “So, (I) decided to go on with the move.”
While stressing the need for urgency, Kleiman also acknowledged the reality of the situation – the team is nearing the end of the regular season, and significant changes will be difficult to implement in such a short timeframe.
“There’s realistic expectations,” he said, recognizing the challenges ahead. “There’s not going to be time to install a bunch of things this time of year. My expectations are clarity of direction and we’ll see what we can do. We’ll see what we can execute.”
With just two weeks remaining in the season, Kleiman’s comments suggest that the focus is less on immediate transformation and more on establishing a clear vision for the team moving forward.
