Stephen Curry’s pelvic contusion caused him to miss only two games, but the Warriors star acknowledged that he will likely “feel it for a while” after his return on Friday against New Orleans, as noted by Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.
Despite the discomfort, Curry expressed relief that his injury wasn’t as serious as his previous one, which involved a hairline fracture in his tailbone during the 2020/21 season when he fell hard onto courtside stairs.
“This time, I don’t think it broke anything or caused any bone damage,” the player explained. “It was mostly just a deep, serious contusion that I’ll feel for a while, but I can play. As long as I don’t land on it again, I can’t make it worse.”
In Friday’s game, Curry struggled with his shooting, making just 7-of-21 shots in 34 minutes during the Warriors’ win over the Pelicans. He noted that he still needs to work on his timing and endurance.
However, head coach Steve Kerr remained optimistic about the veteran guard’s performance despite his shooting struggles.
Kerr believed the time off, even if mostly spent recovering from the injury, would ultimately benefit Curry in the long run as the season progresses.
“I thought he looked great,” Kerr said, according to Youngmisuk. “He was moving really well. Took care of the ball. I thought Steph played an excellent game. He probably missed his last five or six threes, so the numbers don’t look great, but he looked like himself. And I think the week off did him a lot of good.”
